How to Use Our APS Calculator

This free tool helps you estimate your Admission Point Score (APS) in under 60 seconds. Follow these simple steps to get your score.

  1. Find Your Matric Results: Get your final Grade 12 report or certificate. You will need the percentage (%) you achieved for each subject.
  2. Enter Your Top 6 Subjects: Type the percentage (e.g., 72) for your 6 main subjects into the first six boxes. Do not include Life Orientation here.
    • Your Home Language (HL)
    • Your First Additional Language (FAL)
    • Mathematics or Maths Literacy
    • Your 3 other highest-scoring subjects
  3. Enter Life Orientation (Optional): We provide a box for Life Orientation. However, this score is not included in the final APS calculation for most universities (like UJ and Wits). You can add it, but it will not change your score.
  4. Click “Calculate My APS”: Once all 6 subjects are entered, click the blue button.
  5. Get Your Score: Your estimated APS score will instantly appear in the results box below the button.

Understanding Your Score

This calculator uses the most common 7-point scale (where 80% = 7 points). This is the score you will use to check the entry requirements for courses at most major South African universities.

Important: Always check the specific APS calculation method with your chosen university and faculty, as some (like UNISA or UCT) use a different system. This tool is an estimate for guidance only.
